About Reagan Smith (Stewart)

I am an in-house biomedical engineer at Astanza Laser, and I currently live in Waxahachie, Texas. I graduated in May of 2022 from Cornell University with my Master's of Engineering in Biomedical Engineering. I received my Bachelor's of Science degree in Biomedical Engineering from the University of North Texas in May 2021. I have worked as an intern in the Human Movement Performance Lab at the University of North Texas Health & Science Center, where I was responsible for creating a statistical parametric mapping (SPM) analysis learning module for future students as well as applying SPM analysis to ballet data, comparing the differences between male and female movement. Additionally, I was a research assistant at the University of North Texas Micro & Nanoengineering research lab, where I assisted in the preparation and assembly of lung chip devices. In my last year at the University of North Texas, my senior design team, and our sponsors, DUALAMS Inc., worked on designing a new device that will one day change the way medical teams test drug delivery. Additionally, I was a member of the biomedical engineering department's student advisory board, the founding President of the National Biomedical Engineering Honors Society, Alpha Eta Mu Beta, University of North Texas chapter, and a member of the Biomedical Engineering Society. Furthermore, I was recognized for my academic accomplishments, making the University of North Texas President's List every semester since enrolling in the fall of 2017. During my time at Cornell University, I was involved in several team projects. In my project management class, I was assigned the role of project manager for our final team project, which took first place in the project management competition. Additionally, I was a design engineer at Cornell's Touchdown Medical Technology Innovations Inc., where I worked on the project A Robotic Mobility Device for Toddlers with our sponsors' Assistance in Motion. The job was to create a device that addressed the need for powdered mobility devices for immobilized toddlers that will assist them in moving independently. Using LabVIEW 2019 32-bit with a State-Machine approach, I successfully designed the software to drive the robot based on a toddler's intention of motion. Our team presented the final proof of concept to a panel of judges at Cornell's 4th Industry Engagement Day and took first place in the pitch competition.
