Graphics: I created screenshots and short video clips to highlight new product features. It required me to install beta (dogfood) builds and get them running on five platforms, shoot screens or video, and do post production on them. Editing often entailed modifying screens go fit spaces, replace non-public images and text, and manipulate screen elements for better impact. Writing: I wrote and edited existing and new help content for the Office suite of apps. I also wrote training material on tools and procedures for use by vendors at Microsoft. Tech Lead: I was responsible for setup and onboarding new vendor hires at Microsoft, including setup of laptops with tools, internal settings, and the latest updates, training on internal tools, and general tech support. I worked with engineers and helpdesk personnel to get VPN and internal tools to work together for remote workers, debugging issues and finding workarounds for blocking problems.

Working closely with product managers and developers, developed and executed content plans to document new Internet Explorer 9, 10, and 11 APIs for a developer audience. This tool saved at least 50% of the time required to create, copy, paste, and edit over creating the links manually.• Working with a small team, I helped edit the division training document into a manageable quick reference. I also worked on the voice and tone initiative for developer content that brought the Windows voice to more technical documentation.• We used TFS in an agile framework with 2-8week sprints.

Being the only writer for all IE consumer content, I gained respect with the IE Feature team that previously didn’t exist between our teams. • Worked with legal to develop a readable privacy statement that was called out by a Seattle Times blog reporter as one of the best he’d ever seen. • Developed a help viewing program that allowed writers to open their Help content locally or online by simply clicking a list (that’s still in use 7 years later).• Shot video and developed lighting for the Windows video team, and helped win first place in an internal video competition, and a bronze Telly award. • Developed new help topics for Windows XP and Vista, maintaining and synchronizing two independent formats to completion (HTML and XML). Worked out how online content could be used when security blocked using local content. • Created a great working relationship with the feature team that was used as a model for other teams. • Convinced developers and product managers of the benefits of using the new voice and tone and helped get old language out and new language into the source.
