Lecturer Academic Language And LiteracyMurdoch University Feb 2011 - Feb 2016I worked as a Lecturer in Academic Language and Literacy (Level B) in the Centre for University Teaching and Learning at Murdoch University for 5 years. My role in the Centre was to support learning and teaching excellence across the university through innovative curriculum design and Scholarship of Teaching and Learning (SoTL) research. My SoTL research is focused on effective eLearning, intercultural communication and academic acculturation. I have had a number of peer-reviewed journal articles accepted for publication on digital pedagogy, academic identity, cross-cultural communication and queer/international student intersections. In terms of eLearning, I am experimenting with social media, gamification and modular release in online course design. I am also co-editing a book exploring the rise and fall of the university MOOC. In my face-to-face teaching, I apply principles of intercultural communication theory in the design, development and coordination of courses for international postgraduate students to help them manage the transition into Australian academic culture. My teaching in cross-cultural contexts resulted in an unsolicited nomination for the Vice Chancellors Award for Teaching Excellence in 2013. -
