GIS, IM and IT support for the Niagara Escarpment Commisson

• Provides Regional Geographic Information Systems (GIS) services to support regional and district resource management activities• Provides Information Management services, including regional and district records management and Freedom of Information, Privacy and Protection Act (FIPPA) leadership and advice• Performs regional resource modelling and analysis to support resource and land use planning needs• Provides leadership for data and information management across the region

• update and maintain natural resource GIS and database records• provide district GIS products and services, consistent with regional and provincial standards, in order to support ministry projects• liaise with regional GIS staff to ensure district requirements and priorities are clearly conveyed to regional staff• provide project management for field and office data collection projects• provide input into the development of standards for data transfer, compatibility, valuation, maintenance and quality control, and assistance to staff in the use and maintenance of hardware, software and peripheral equipment• coordinate the development and administration of resource management information agreements and copyright license agreements

• Use ArcGIS software to analyze, compile, and modify geographic information to support staff mapping project or information requests related to Ontario's agricultural soil, land capability and land-resources• Digitize, geo-reference, vectorize and edit digital and hard copy soil, land-capability and land-resource information to create, enhance and maintain Ministry corporate datasets• Create documentation for GIS analysis and reports that provide methodology• Assist in the automation of GIS analysis and workflow process through scripting or modelling• Support the renewal of Ontario's Soil Mapping Projects

- Agricultural mapping in Northern Ontario for the expansion of farmland to the north- Quality assurance of large spatial soil datasets to ensure data quality and consistency - Producing government mapping products for delivery to clients and the general public

- Creation and digitization of detailed agricultural maps for the purpose of environmental monitoring and water resource protection from agricultural sources- Geo-referencing satellite imagery and maintaining products in operational database- Responsible for organization and data quality control/assurance for geospatial datasets- This position requires extensive multi-tasking to meet multiple project deadlines and attention to detail due to use of results in public presentations

- Undergraduate GIS courses: The Earth from space and GIS and Spatial Analysis- Facilitated laboratory sessions for up to 40 students (4 semesters)- Assisted students with issues pertaining to use of ArcGIS, Whitebox GAT software and applications- Graded laboratory assignments and exams

- Integration of geomatics into first year undergraduate courses- Development of case studies, maps and teaching support documents- Data collection and monitoring of urban hydrological flow regimes- Geographic Information Systems (GIS) mapping- Development of stage-discharge rating curve for urban creeks- Continuous monitoring of water quality and levels (onset data loggers)- Estimating urban groundwater recharge, evapotranspiration and runoff volumes

SMAP Validation Experiment - Conducting soil moisture measurements in agricultural fields for the validation of satellite soil moisture monitoring- Gathering vegetation characteristics for calculation of plant biomass, leaf area index and moisture content- Experience learning and using a wide range of technical field equipment (Soil moisture probes, Crop Scan)

- Digitized Tile Drainage Areas for the purpose of maintaining detailed provincial records - Creation of detailed help manuals for reading contractor construction plans for the purpose of aiding in future projects- Responsible for managing a detailed, accurate database for organizing and archiving supplemental information- Collaborated on assigned projects with 5-8 team members to achieve project goals

- Digitized and Geo-referenced historical county maps of Ontario- Assisted a historical address coding project for the City of Toronto- Lead creator of help documents for GIS processes using ArcGIS 10

- Organized and completed multiple orders for historical air photo coverage to clients- Enhanced problem solving and customer service skills were required- Lab work included precision scanning, air photo manipulation and analysis which required high attention to detail to produce accurate products

- Responsible for answering calls for the Ontario Ministry of Natural Resources Information Line- Provided legislative information on hunting, fishing and Natural Resources to clients- Liaised with clients to inform them of product details, handled personal information, payment details while maintaining confidentiality
