Having completed a BSc Biochemistry at the University of Leeds and an MSc Toxicology at the University of Birmingham, I consider myself to be a multidisciplinary scientist with specialised research and academic skills within the toxicology field. Undertaking an MSc at a respectable Russell Group Univeristy has allowed me to receive excellent education and training which has further enhanced my personal and research skill set and developed on my understanding of toxicological mechanisms obtained from my BSc.My MSc enhanced my understanding on a wide range of toxicological aspects from drug metabolism and mechanisms of toxicity to forensics and clinical toxicology. I developed a strong interest in cellular mechanisms of toxicity and how they are assayed and overcome, therefore carried out an MSc placement that focused predominantly in this area. I utilised various in vitro cytotoxic and reporter assays to assess the anti-proliferative effect of novel ferrocene nucleotide analogues on cultured oesophagus cancer cells to determine the potential use of these compounds as chemotherapy drugs. Having thoroughly enjoyed collaborating within a multidisciplinary team in a laboratory environment, my focus is now to pursue a career at the front of research and innovation to help design techniques to overcome the effects of toxicity and disease. Outside of uni, I enjoy reading, exercising and socialising. Being a highly motivated individual, in the past I have enjoyed volunteering with children which I hope to continue in the future.
