This is working in a busy pharmacy next door to a doctor’s surgery, dispensing around 14,000 items a month. I had covered in this pharmacy when I worked at L. Cameron & Son Ltd for a few days, as it was owned by the same man. When Paydens took over the pharmacy, I was personally invited back by the manager, who I have worked with previously for many years. My jobs include dispensing prescriptions (including electronic prescriptions), placing orders and putting them away, managing stock control, cashing up the shop till, ordering pharmacy supplies, date checking the pharmacy, ordering and documenting unlicensed special items. I am also classed as the 'go-to' person when anything goes wrong with our computer systems, so I would say I am fairly competent with computers I have recently passed my accuracy checking technician course, in which I am qualified to make the final check on patients’ repeat prescriptions, achieving 100% first time in my final exam. A couple of months ago, our manager decided to resign suddenly, leaving no one to take their place. I was able to take on the role to keep the pharmacy running, but also remain part of the team. With the help from myself and my colleagues, we have managed to keep the pharmacy running in a way that there is little disruption to our patients.

Pharmacy Technician - This is working in a busy pharmacy attached to a doctor’s surgery, dispensing up to 13,000 items a month. My jobs include dispensing prescriptions (including electronic prescriptions), placing orders and putting them away, managing patient’s repeat prescriptions, liaising and dispensing for a local nursing home, taking patient’s blood pressure as a free service, help running the smoking cessation service and organising deliveries for the delivery driver. I also successfully trained a dispensary assistant and was in the process of training a pharmacy technician

I started off as a Saturday girl at the age of 15 after a successful week of work experience. Jobs included serving customers on the medicines counter, taking in and handing out prescriptions, cashing up the till, and general ‘housework’ such as dusting, vacuuming and washing up. After 2 years of enjoying my job, I then became full time and started training to be a pharmacy technician. In July 2012, I qualified. My jobs included; dispensing prescriptions under the supervision of a pharmacist, advising patients on over the counter and prescription medicines, maintaining dispensary stock levels, maintaining the controlled drugs register, dispensing blister packs, entering NMS consultations on the My Health Place website, and looking after the pharmacy’s computers. As part of a small business, I was also in charge of endorsing prescriptions accurately and sourcing stock from the cheapest source, so the company could get paid correctly with the most profit.
