Following the successful sale of my business (Dodo Pad Ltd.) after 25 years, I returned to consultancy and now work with a small portfolio of clients. Following the maximum tenure (12 years) on the National Committee Board, ending in June 2016, I was invited to become an Honorary Member of the Association going forward, including collaboration on special projects related to the development of the Association in support of its members.

I was approached in 1996 to help save a 30-year-old diary that was being written off at the time of a HarperCollins disposal. I saw two things: firstly a brand, which I believed could be nurtured back from the brink of extinction and secondly, a way of keeping my brain cells in good condition in the early days of motherhood. Since 1996 we greatly expanded the product range and gained listings in all the major retail outlets in the UK and some exposure in the USA. My role encompassed all aspects of running a small business but I primarily focused on building the brand franchise in depth as well as breadth. In 2020 I negotiated a sale to the new owners who will take it from strength to even greater strength over the next 25 years. I continue to offer consultancy services to the company as required.

I was not employed by the BATF but served in a non-exec capacity as a trustee of BJGF Benevolent Society when I was invited to become a trustee of the Federation's Charity after 11 years as a member of the Giftware Association's National Committee. During my time as a trustee, the charity was undergoing a period of change in emphasis from solely caring for and financially assisting individuals that have previously worked within the giftware, jewellery, surface engineering & travel goods and fashion accessories industries, to also providing bursaries and support to talented individuals starting out on their careers within the sector, who might not otherwise be able to financially support themselves through their education.My main focus of attention during my time as a trustee was to develop and implement a new identity for the charity that would bring it up to date with its new responsibilities and provide a visual and change management focus for those involved with the charity; from the trustees themselves, to the media and to those receiving support.

I was not employed by the GA but served the maximum period of 12 years from 2004 - 2016 as a non-exec member of the National Committee Board advising, in particular, on design and communications aspects for the effective running of this important trade association. I also held the role of championing the aspirations and requirements of smaller businesses within the association. I was central in developing the communications strategy and design implementation of the current website as well as playing a key role in the development of the association's brand identity.
