Independently established residential and commercial design services for store that was new to the region during construction and hiring phases. Reported to store management in Atlanta, GA. Continued on as needed for consultation and design services after retail store was opened and staff was hired. Draw (on site/on demand) to scale custom landscape designs/master plans for clients of Pike Family Nurseries, speaker at local/regional garden shows and events. Oversee installation the designs, assist in plant and hardscape selections. Proficient in hardscape construction and material logistics for sites of all sizes.

Used Vectorworks CAD program to develop landscape plans for commercial and residential customers across eighteen states in a region stretching from Texas, east to Delaware.Use site photos and survey plats to evaluate sites and make recommendations addressing drainage, slope, and other site issues, while designing a master plan for the property. These plans included both hardscape design (driveways, outbuildings, etc) and a planting design with year-round interest. Interfaced with all customers to design personalized plans, developed filing and tracking system for plans, trained new designers and interns, brought department from a 9 month backlog in work to a current status during initial training phase. Wrote stories for publication in the magazine. Represented Garden Department of magazine at various public relations events including garden tours and landscape judging events. Tiger Cruise Coordinator, Island Visit Coordinator, Assistant Foreign Ship Liaison Officer, Physical Fitness Coordinator, Housing Advisory Board Member.Managed two high-profile public affairs programs for the Navy (Tiger Cruise and Island visit Coordinator) in Hawaii, coordinating arrival and boarding of visitors (up to 2500 guests at a time, supervising dozens of assistants) to Naval ships, and ships visits to neighboring islands. Contracted for all transportation services, supplies, fuel, community service projects, etc. Ensured vessels making trips to outer islands were compliant with all local and federal environmental regulations. Interfaced with organizations monitoring the environmental impact of the ships on the local waters (EPA, Greenpeace, etc.) Developed payment system that complied with government contracting system while relieving ships of administrative burdens during at-sea times and ensured prompt payment to vendors. Oversaw maintenance of navigational charts and Command Operations Center equipment for regional Disaster Preparedness drills and actual emergencies. Activated Operations Center whenever conditions warranted, assessing departments, personnel, and equipment needs and contacting the appropriate facilities to provide those services. Operated two Harbor Tug boats, as captain (YTT and YTL), in the movement of barges, ships, and submarines in the San Francisco Bay area. Trained and supervised crews of two working tug boats, moving ships and nuclear submarines in and out of berths and dry-docks. Scheduled and oversaw all training, operations, preventive maintenance, and repair work including complete vessel overhaul. Worked containing fuel and other hazardous chemical spills by moving the necessary personnel and equipment to the area. Assisted the movement of vessels in distress, and in vessels being sent to 'mothball' fleets. Trained with harbor pilots for critical maneuvers in the unique and dangerous cross-current conditions posed at this drydock facility. Most junior person to qualify for this position. Received numerous awards for superior performance. Worked with vessel engineer to order repair and maintenance parts, ensuring operational readiness. Ensured physical condition of the vessel was well-maintained. Maintained harbor charts with accurate changes to ensure safe operations underway. Left this job to pursue overseas assignments in Asia.
