Through Global LT, I work with adult students from a variety of international backgrounds with a variety of English language levels. I meet with students privately for a certain number of contracted hours, working on language confidence, grammatical competence and sometimes expertise, accent reduction, comprehension, and—to varying degrees—cultural literacy. At present, most of my students are at intermediate or advanced levels.

I score the written sections of the TOEFL exam.

I edit academic materials for professional scholars and students whose native language is not English. Specifically, I work for the History, Philosophy (Analytic and Continental), and Religion hub, but there is some cross-over from subjects related to Sociology, Philosophy of Science, Psychology, etc. My job is to make the manuscripts publication-ready, insofar as the content is suitable for publication. I have assisted in the publication process of hundreds of journal articles, as well as graduate dissertations and a handful of books.

I am a volunteer teacher for adult ESL students, primarily Hispanic. I teach the most advanced level that our program offers, but my students' skill levels vary significantly from year to year, meaning that my lesson plans and in-class tools flex according to the needs of the current students. I have some past experience teaching English to high school and college students, but my strengths (and preferences) lie in teaching adult internationals at an intermediate to advanced level.

My work for Compass USA’s homestay program is annually renewed and entails recruiting host families, hiring a teacher and an assistant, organizing and running an educational and cultural program for international students, and forging connections in the community as multiple persons and parties come together to make the program happen. I look forward to the prospect of coordinating another local program in the future. This job involves a great deal of communication, leadership, and interpersonal skills, not to mention the sheer ability to shepherd 20 Chinese adolescents around town without losing them or—worse—boring them.
