Coaching, consultation, and support for community prevention efforts across Indiana: local needs and readiness assessments, coalition and capacity building, community mobilization, strategic planning, program implementation, data collection, analysis and utilization. I am also a QPR suicide prevention instructor for a SAMHSA Mental Health Awareness Training grant, and primary investigator for a research project examining border county responses to changing cannabis legislation in Indiana's neighboring states.

During my tenure, Thriving Connections initiative obtained over $100,000 in funds from the Lilly Foundation, the Anthem Foundation, the Smithville Foundation, the Bloomington Board of Realtors, and the City of Bloomington's Sophia Travis Community Service and Digital Equity Grants; doubled our staff capacity; and transitioned to a COVID-safe, creative, hybrid community model.

I headed the ANA grants office, working both with staff and partners on the ground in Guatemala and with our Bismarck, North Dakota-based 501c3 partner organization, The GOD'S CHILD Project. I supported reporting and re-application for a concurrent U.S. State Department G-TIP grant and wrote over twenty funding proposals for projects as varied as domestic violence victims' advocacy, a "pay-it-forward" solar lamp microloan program, and a local middle school for disadvantaged youth.

Greater Milwaukee Area

I was hired as Executive Director of a neighborhood and cultural organization in Milwaukee at the age of 23. I directed multiple programs and headed a staff of two paid employees and a handful of volunteers. Our main services were funded as part of the Milwaukee Healthy Neighborhoods Initiative and focused on strengthening housing markets and supporting urban residents.

I spent fifteen months as a public health educator with a special focus on HIV/AIDS prevention in a small seaside farming community and surrounding villages. My official community partners were nurse-midwives, though I also worked closely with local teachers. In addition to health-related work, I tutored advanced English students and served on the steering committee for Outdoor Ambassadors, a country-wide environmental education initiative spearheaded by Peace Corps volunteers.

Khashuri, Republic Of Georgia

I began my Peace Corps experience in the Republic of Georgia. I lived with a host family in a tiny village, studied Georgian, Russian and Armenian languages, and attended TEFL training sessions on classroom management, lesson planning and implementation. I successfully completed a 3-week teaching practicum and a week-long English language summer school before my training was interrupted due to the August 2008 Russian-Georgian conflict. Peace Corps evacuated all volunteers from Georgia, and I spent a month in Armenia before my reassignment in Albania.

As a college junior, I studied the Center for New Americans' impact on their immigrant clients as part of an anthropological methods course. I also became a volunteer tutor, meeting weekly with my student for English conversation and cross-cultural exchange. As a college senior, I continued my work as a tutor and was also invited to assist the Center with a qualitative needs assessment of immigrants' use and understandings of American healthcare services provision.
