Profile bio

About Rebecca N.

My experience is in applied research of groundwater hydrology and geochemistry. I recently joined the Edwards Aquifer Authority (EAA) as a Principal Geoscientist where I conduct projects to assess the vulnerability of the aquifer system to changes in water quality. Prior to joining the EAA, I worked for Southwest Research Institute as a Research Scientist. In this capacity, I developed and led multiple projects investigating the water resources of regional aquifers in Texas, including the Edwards, Edwards-Trinity, and Carrizo-Wilcox aquifers, and studied multi-outlet spring systems and other important regional springs in west Texas. As part of that work, I developed conceptual and geochemical-based statistical models to explain the multiple sources of flow to San Solomon Springs and to evaluate groundwaters in the Comanche Springs area.

Listed skills include Environmental Science, Research, Microsoft Office, Geology, and 19 others.

Scientist (Groundwater Hydrology)

San Antonio, Texas Area

• Spearhead geochemistry-oriented research endeavors within Earth Science Section.• Write proposals for internal research grants.• Develop numerical models of groundwater flow regimes to evaluate the impacts of pumping, wastewater disposal practices, and climate change on aquifers in Texas.• Assist and mentor junior staff and temporary agency employees.• Compile and synthesize field-based hydrogeochemical data of spring and groundwater samples.• Use geographic information systems (GIS) to execute spatial analyses and interpolations of hydrologic and stratigraphic data.

Nov 2017 - Dec 2021

Scientist Assistant (Groundwater Hydrology)

San Antonio, Texas Area

• Assembled and critically evaluated historical water quality data from various sources to create a high-quality database, and subsequently conducted statistical and geochemical analyses of the data as part of an Edwards Aquifer Authority (EAA)-funded investigation of potential interformational flow between the Edwards and Trinity aquifers. Additional funding of the project continued through 2018.• Assessed geophysical logs and well data to identify candidate wells for subsequent analysis, combined geophysical and lithological data to delineate zones for salinity calculations, developed maps of interpreted salinity zones, edited and corrected maps from subcontractors all in support of project to identify and quantify brackish water production zones in the Trinity Aquifer.• Conducted water quality sampling of groundwater and surface water as part of a study of recharge sources and flow in the southern Carrizo-Wilcox Aquifer. Assembled and distributed analytical results reports to well owners.• Using a geostatistical mapping approach, developed a conceptual model of recharge and flow in the Edwards-Trinity (Plateau) Aquifer.
