About Reece Mabbett

Currently a Trainee Clinical Scientist on the NHS Scientist Training Programme (STP). This is a 3 year programme where I am currently fulfilling a portfolio of competencies and training experiences across Haematology & Transfusion, Clinical Immunology, Genomic & Molecular Sciences and Histocompatibility & Immunogenetics (H&I). This is in aim of achieving an accredited MSc in Clinical Sciences specialising in H&I while gaining HCPC registration necessary to perform serological and molecular-based testing, analysis, and reporting for solid organ and haematopoietic stem cell transplantation (HSCT) patients. My predominant interests lie within HSCT in which my currently ongoing MSc dissertation is investigating the clinical outcome of HLA-DPB1 mismatching in allogeneic HSCT patients.Prior to the STP, I have a demonstrated history of working in both academic (University of Oxford and Birmingham) and UKAS & ISO 15189 accredited clinical NHS laboratories supporting clinical trial research and diagnostic testing for NHS patients. I am competent in a wide variety of immunology and specialist haematology-focused techniques including PBMC isolation, ELISA, ELISpot, Multiplex Luminex panels (cytokines, bacterial/viral antibodies), maintaining various cell lines & cytotoxicity assays. Moreover, I have experience using several automated analyser platforms within clinical pathology laboratories including Dynex, Sysmex, Werfen & Stago.Outside of my scientific career I am also a TEFL-accredited English Language Teacher having taught in South Korea and Japan across the elementary and junior high school levels.
