I am a first-year undergraduate student at the Robert H. Smith School of Business at the University of Maryland, pursuing a bachelor’s degree in accounting. I hope to follow the CPA route through the business world and cultivate the skills necessary to address the financial conditions of a company.I initially took interest in business through a summer internship at Public Spend Forum (PSF) LLC, a public procurement company with the mission to develop research on supply/demand, expanding technology, and investment. This experience introduced me to the structure of the business world and encouraged me to learn more. Because of this, I participated in a social entrepreneurship program with a company called University Startups. Here, I learned about entrepreneurship and the several components of business, specifically taking interest in the Accounting sector. These experiences have given me a broad overview of the business world and what it has to offer, making me even more excited to be a part of it.So far at the University of Maryland I have participated in a few clubs including the Accounting Business Association (ABA). In ABA, we have weekly meetings where we meet with companies to discuss their organization’s goal in relation to accounting and their recruitment process. In addition to ABA, I am a member of the Women in Business Association (WBA). As a member of their finance committee, I help brainstorm fundraising opportunities for the association along with helping to determine the budget for the group. Alongside these associations, I am a part of the Bollywood fusion dance team Maryland Manzar as a member of their Finance Team and a dancer. My participation in their Finance Team allows me to get hands on experience with managing the finances of a C corporation along with communicating with other organizations to raise funds. Additionally being a member of the dance team helps provide me with diverse experiences and a group to explore activities like dance. Through each of these experiences I have met many amazing people and made great relationships, which I hope to continue to do.
