John Rees Email and Phone Number
I am interested in pursuing a career in the renewable energy industry. I graduated from the University of Dayton with a Master of Science in Renewable and Clean Energy and a Graduate Certificate in Sustainability. I also earned a Bachelor of Science in Engineering Technology, with a Minor in Sustainability, Energy, & Environment (SEE). Since graduating in 2018, I have worked for the Hanley Sustainability Institute and Facilities Management at UD on energy and sustainability-related projects across campus. These projects have ranged from reducing energy consumption in the student neighborhood through the Energy GPA program and installing wifi thermostats, helping university-sponsored events go zero-waste, and assisting in building a garden on campus that will provide some of the dining halls with fresh produce.Between my sophomore and junior year, I spent a summer studying abroad in Germany, and while there, I had exposure to Industrial Engineering applications. Studying abroad has helped my communication skills since there was a language barrier between the German citizens and myself. Professors and peers would describe me as hardworking and dedicated to my schoolwork. I do very well working independently, as well as working in group settings where colleagues support each other and challenge each other to think critically.

Graduate AssistantUniversity Of Dayton Facilities Management Aug 2019 - May 2021Dayton, OhioAssisted in implementing HVAC and lighting setbacks to reduce energy usage for the university. Setbacks included adjusting air handler schedules and temperature setpoints, and the project assessment resulted in $1.1 million in utility bill savings.Assisted in annual load shedding and demand response days resulting in over $100k in savings for the university. My responsibilities included remotely adjusting and monitoring temperature and humidity in student houses and apartments as well as turning air handlers on and off while also monitoring temperature and humidity readings.Designed and proposed design layouts for 52 kW and 29 kW solar arrays to be installed on the windscreen of the engineering building with the potential to reduce greenhouse gas emissions up to 140,000 lbs CO2/yr and 88,000 lbs CO2/yr, respectively. Initiated a lighting audit of three residential buildings on campus to replace fluorescent lamps with LEDs that could have the potential to save 400,000 kWh/yr & $22,000/yr for the university.Analyzed 167-fleet vehicle emissions and proposed fully electric and plug-in hybrid options for at least a 50% reduction in GHG emissions.Utilized Portfolio Manager to analyze the energy usage and overall GHG emissions for academic and residential buildings on campus.Calculated annual GHG emissions for the university using the carbon-accounting platform SIMAP.
