Incorporated in 1947 as a family-owned business with a staff of two, Brayman has grown, diversified and evolved it's construction services from a small bridge and concrete company to a large, nationally recognized heavy civil and geotechnical contractor.Brayman's Heavy Civil, Foundation, Steel Erection, Intermediate Bridge Fabrication, Demolition, and Precast Concrete Divisions serve both public and private sector clients. Brayman offers innovative design/build solutions for a broad spectrum of services, including bridges, marine construction, deep foundations, steel repair and structure demolition.My position at Brayman Construction involves the procurement, tracking, scheduled and emergency repair of and repair estimates for all of their foundation drill tooling. My shop can also build / modify tooling and machinery quickly to meet the changing needs of our jobs.The scope of this covers large diameter drill tooling, small diameter drill tooling, kelly bars, casing, tremie pipes and accessories, tooling modifications, procurement / stocking of spare parts and meeting the tooling and consumable requirements for our projects. My repair shop is also a fabrication job shop, able to quickly design parts and modify machinery to meet our job sites needs. With Brayman's backing, I put together this shop from the ground up with a 150ton hydraulic press, radial arm drill, lathe, CNC burn table, band saw and a larger welding positioner to enable us to carry out a wide range of builds, modifications and repairs without having to rely heavily on outside businesses.

Nicholson Construction belongs to the Soletanche Bachy group, to which Bachy Soletanche also belongs. Nicholson Construction has been at the forefront of geotechnical solutions in the USA for the past 50 years and continues to strive for excellence in innovation and safety. The core of my work was fabrication and welding, whether it is repairing damaged machinery or an accessory, building new machinery from technical drawings or designing and building custom parts and tooling from just a verbal brief. I would advise co-workers on welding procedures and correct grades of welding consumables to use for specific projects. I also deal directly with suppliers to ensure they have the correct stock amounts of welding consumables and welding PPE.While I never had the title of 'Shop Foreman', by the end of my tenure, I was treated in the same light as a forman, and would look after the shop when my manager was out on other business. I'm a proficient operator of lathes, milling machines, vertical borers and line borers and work to accuracies of .001“ or .02mm if using metric tools. I have some mechanics experience and can switch to this roll when the shop workload requires it. I'm a trained rigger / signaler and rigging inspector. I would also load / unload trucks and inspect the shop rigging on a regular basis.

My position with this company was to fabricate new machinery, modify and repair current machinery in the fleet.Working with Bachy allowed me to vastly expand my knowledge and experience in the welding and mechanical engineering areas of construction. It is with Bachy Soletanche that I trained as mobile powered access operator, CNC profiler operator, CNC robotic welder operator, tool room machines operator, rigging inspector, crane coordinator, first aider and re-qualify as a forklift operator and a slinger / signaler.It was with Bachy that I finally had the chance to fully qualify as a fabricator / welder and pass coded welding tests.It was also working with Bachy that afforded me the opportunity to work and live in the USA.

I worked for Bachy Soletanche as a subcontractor for 6 months.I had never heard of the company or knew where it was. The day before I was due to start work I took a ride out to see where I would be working and introduce myself to the management.I stated at that first meeting that I would like to be full time employed but needed work. I worked hard and learned fast. After five months of work I was asked if I still wanted a full time job, which I was more than happy to accept when it was offered.

WST produces exhaust parts, full assemblies, fuel and coolant pipes for companies like Walker, Bosal, Mercedes, Toyota, Jaguar and MG.My main job was to produce pressure tested coolant pipes for the MG-F sports car.With my help, the company was able to reduce the amount of parts scrapped due to failure at the pressure testing stage. This is because I was able to repair the failed parts to a degree that you could not tell they were repaired.I took this job as a self test to see if I could be a full time welder. This proved to be a good step for me and it worked out very well.

Ainscough metals is a scrap metal company that diversified into demolition, industrial dismantling, machine removals, shipping container sales and hire, reclaimed building materials and new steel retail. I was involved in every aspect of the company during my time there. I started off in demolition, industrial dismantling and machine removals and worked my way through to the steel warehouse. It is in these many roles where I learned welding and fabrication, rigging and signaling, forklift and gantry crane operation and many other skills which gave me a solid foundation for what is now my vocation and career.
