I didn’t intend to become a recruiter; few do, I think, as one tends to fall into, rather than actively pursue, a career in this field. I had other plans upon graduating uni – editing Rolling Stone, probably – but, 25 years after I answered a tiny newspaper help wanted ad for a generalist firm in Toronto, recruitment has been the core of my entire professional life. I've recruited at all talent levels, from entry to the C-suite, across temp, contract, and full time, in contingency and retained models. I've designed and led global TA teams for blue chip EPCMs, I’ve run independent search firms, I’ve trained countless folks how to recruit. Once you’re in recruitment, you’re in, I guess. Today I’m the co-founder of and partner in Plutonic. We assist forward-thinking companies in the mining and minerals sector to navigate their most complex talent challenges. Our expertise lies in executive search, board and technical leadership recruitment, as well as providing comprehensive HR and talent advisory consulting.
