About Renae Sayers

Renae Sayers is the Director of Strategic Initiatives at Curtin University's School of Earth and Planetary Sciences, and has been a catalyst in the space science community in Australia. Driven by a passion for uniting people and ideas, Renae focuses on enhancing and driving strategic projects and partnerships through a transdisciplinary lens, with a strong emphasis on impactful science communication. Her ability to join the dots and influence organisational frameworks, fostered the formation of the Curtin Frontiers Institute for Geoscience Solutions, bridging capabilities and capacity development for the University. From her early days inspired by stargazing, 16-year-old Renae sent an email to NASA that kick-started her journey through a degree in Astrophysics and onward to a career across the globe. More recently, working with NASA and space leaders globally, Renae’s leadership acumen has supported the development of the West Australian Space ecosystem through the establishment of the Space Science and Technology Centre and its Binar Space Program (Noongar for "fireball" or shooting star), and as part of the founding team for the Australian Remote Operations for Space and Earth (AROSE) consortium. In 2021, Renae helped spearhead the biggest university media event in the country, with the launch of Western Australia’s first spacecraft, Binar-1, and was recognised as a Finalist for the inaugural AMCHAM Alliance Award for Emerging Leadership in Space. Renae’s commitment to space outreach shines through BinarX, where high school students are designing and will deploy payloads into orbit, democratising space exploration and inspiring the pipeline of our young innovators - proudly going to the heart of “making space in service of others”. Her leadership garnered international recognition when she was selected for the U.S. Department of State’s International Visitor Leadership Program, advancing global goals of empowerment for women leaders, space endeavours and STEM outreach. Believing deeply that partnerships are the key to prosperity, Renae is part of the Australian American Leadership Dialogue, previously as a Young Leader and Program Manager. As a strategic operator with front line tactical engagement experience, Renae draws her intense passion, adaptability and cognitive diversity from collaborating with science centres, universities, festivals, creative agencies, governments and communities in the US, UK, Japan, Abu Dhabi, Beijing, Singapore and across Australia.
