Be The Best Media Services Ltd is the manifestation of a hybrid marketer. It was born out of a stubborn mind (my own), inexperienced in business and trying to figure out how to do everything himself. Fortunately that curse of 'time spent'​, yielded the gift of a hybrid skillset and thus be the best media can offer high end expert level services of e-commerce / web design / content management systems / responsive design and marketing. This all could be clearly articulated to the client as the project manager knew the inner workings of all the moving parts, making the process of building a website easier. The company has been comprised of me and a remote team of contractors who all collaborate to execute website projects with a central focus on bringing clients a return on their investment.It wasn't always that way. Like many web companies, the business was an evolution from the growth and graduation of a freelance web designer (myself) into a web agency. And our focus would be to produce websites that we were instructed to build. With a twist of fate, exposure to direct response marketing and rubbing shoulders with some impressive minds, I eventually understood what our job really was as web designers. It was to build one of the most powerful tools of a clients marketing suite (a website) and ensure that tool coordinated correctly with an overall marketing goal that sat firmly within a business objective, which in most cases was profit driven. Absent of this purpose, a website serves no purpose beyond the ego of the person building it or having it built, for their admiration. Unfortunately most web designers have never understood this idea, and as a result will be building art pieces instead of a solid marketing branch that can grow the yield for a client's business.This business was self funded and at no point did we take any grants or investment from any individual or organisation.

Be the Best Basketball was born out of the realisation that basketball as a profession was not going to be sustainable. After taking on work as a mentor in secondary education in 3 different schools in 3 years, I identified flaws in behaviour that I felt sport could remedy. Be the Best Basketball therefore had two purposes:1. To expose beginners to elite level basketball and give them a route into elite participation and programs. Often at the national level of basketball. 2. To use basketball as a tool to work with and engage disaffected youth and provide an avenue into opportunity. The business was built around me as a sessional coach throughout the schools in the uk (mostly Birmingham & Solihull) teaching basketball both during curriculam time and after school. This would also include basketball camps in the summer time. My service was also to youth in prisons and pupil referral units, using basketball as an engagement tool with some of the harshest of young offenders.

I served as a learning mentor to young people who were disaffected or socially struggling. Very much like an outreach centre that young people could use when they wished, we were to work with school teachers and identify young people at risk of bad behaviour and struggling to cope in class. This involved onsite counselling, coming up with programs that would support the young person to achieve more and general support. This was a post in the early phase of mentoring before it had yet been standardised throughout schools.

I began this post, surprisingly young (just 20 years). A uniquely tough task of managing a group of 6 young boys all at risk of exclusion or expulsion. These boys were quite literally quarantined from the school and their classroom was a portacabin separate from the mainstream school. My job was to teach them ASDAN, an alternative vocational based syllabus and where able integrate them slowly into mainstream lessons in school necessary for their GCSE's: Maths, English & Science. This role set the foundation for me understanding true patience, intelligence and interpersonal skills. After working these young boys and seeing them through their exams, I became a learning support centre mentor, where I would be based in a centre who hosted young people who had to serve time for punishment.
