Edinburgh Fringe run of Mercimax's play, 8:8, at Summerhall, funded by Pro Helvetia.

Design/Production partner in this 3D design agency and machine workshop specialising in unlocking high-technology manufacture for high-finish and/or precious metal product development and production. Establishing technical pathways to design realisation, taking into account, budget, lead-time, quantities and quality.Key Contributions:• Built the business from new and unknown to the first port of call for small-scale laser cutting/engraving and 3D printing in Edinburgh, mostly through a self-built website and SEO.• Helped Banneya formulate processes for their on-demand 3D printed jewellery online boutique. Compiled a constraints document for designers, clearly illustrating the dos and don'ts of designing for 3D printing and lost wax casting. Developed their first products.• Created a narrated stop-frame animation video explaining the process of MAK:MIND – a community outreach project of 3D Creative Workshops.• Responsible for the books and quarterly VAT returns.

Managed day-to-day running of this small but busy community centre, especially the commercial side. Self-managed role, reporting monthly to the board.Key Contributions:• Delivered 20% year-on-year increase in revenue from room hire without ever raising the hire rates. This was done by careful analysis of usage patterns, maximising peaks through controls and marketing the gaps at negotiable rates.• Wrote room hire terms and conditions.• Facilitated community workshops and gatherings.• Created templates for leaflets, posters and mailshots for future production. • Volunteered as open meditation leader in my spare time.

Provided live music to the EIF premiere of Alan Ayckbourn's epic play The Divide at King’s Theatre.

Proofed, edited, formatted, compiled and version controlled technical reports to stringent ISO and bespoke client standards.

Scheduled and led rehearsals and appearance of groups of the 330 members of the Love Music Community Choir during Ramin Gray and the Actors Touring Company’s Edinburgh Fringe production of The Events by David Greig, at the Traverse Theatre. Key Contributions:• Accommodated all performers’ requests to be on or off certain shows and communicated regularly and clearly with everyone to ensure a full complement for each show.

Gathered and studied all relevant information about changes in legislation affecting the lettings business and offered recommendations for compliance. Key Contributions:• Collated and amended affected documentation and implemented new business protocols to comply – referring only a few minor points to legal counsel.

Covering for the Marketing Manager, I defined and rolled out the 2013/14 marketing strategy, including research-led advertising campaigns in targeted real estate. Procured and negotiated advertising media.Key Contributions:• Improved brand recognition and consistency by calling attention to details like colour matching, fonts, spacing, etc.

Investigated and supported database cleansing and migration. Key Contributions:• Implemented new protocols through hands-on training, workshops and manuals.

Facilitated/supported various fashion jewellery summer schools and evening courses. Key Contributions:• Identified a risky technical issue in a set project and wrote in a simple design constraint which sped up delivery and ensured more elegant outcomes. • Introduced social media as a means to share supplemental media and to stimulate group discussions.• Created video tutorials (screen recordings with running commentary) on CAD processes and made these available to students online.

Assisted the development and international implementation of a complex Dynamics CRM customisation. Floated between the Testing, Training and Development teams in a synergetic, pragmatic and hands-on Agile/Scrum environment. Participated in UAT, training, handover documentation, bug replication, data migration, rollout, user administration and more. Key Contributions:• Responsible for remote training in Africa and parts of Asia. A lot of careful planning went into remote training, taking into account staff availability, technological barriers and time zones.• Responsible for the training wiki and user manual – updating it daily as we progressed. Used annotated screenshots and flow diagrams to clarify processes.• Participated in replicating and defining bugs during UAT, training and deployment. Came up with a few useful work-arounds while bugs were being investigated and fixed.• Owned translations and xml templating of one-click documents.• Mucked in to set up and troubleshoot live video/audio training sessions.• Volunteered at CA fundraising events in my spare time.

Ikon Office Solutions Plc -> Ricoh UK Ltd (acquisition) Started out as Assistant Fleet Manager and promoted to Head Travel Coordinator, managing the team. Entrusted with the £12M budget and the company credit card. Responsible for duty of care pertaining to staff travelling on business, which entailed complex document control.Key Contributions:• Supported a project to go paperless: Mapped the Fleet and Travel processes and made suggestions as to how we could move more smoothly to a paperless system.• Supported merging of operational offices after acquisition of Ikon by Ricoh by participating in conversations about new protocols and structures.• Developed good relationships with key contacts in hotel, travel and car hire groups, which promoted better corporate rates and personal service.

Helping Faisal Shah produce his collection of haute couture fine jewellery, I had to really coax his vision out of him and develop the final designs before taking them into production. I met and negotiated with various manufacturers to ensure the smoothest process possible within budget. Each piece had its own critical path and I had to make sure each third party adhered to the required lead-times while delivering the expected quality. Key Contributions:• The pieces were complex and made up of numerous components. After modelling these, I would lay out the pieces virtually, number them and put them in a process diagram so that all third parties had clear instructions for their own work and could see how their process fits in the big picture.

Managed the Ukraine-based web 2.0 development team remotely. Responsible for creating and maintaining much of the project documents. Led brainstorming of the look and feel, slogans, etc.Key Contributions:• Designed an app with instructions in comic strip format.• Led the marketing strategy and generated social media following in the thousands.

Compiled packaged and bespoke IT infrastructure services, e.g. web hosting, local and international networking and managed services predominantly for City of London insurance companies. Assessed new IT delivery/datacentre/data security solutions, supported by in-house engineers. Wrote product data sheets. Created process diagrams of operational and escalation procedures. Reviewed, compared and negotiated third party services, prices, lead-times, SLAs and terms to ensure the best deal for BIS’s packaged solutions – usually trusted to draw my own conclusions and simply report my decisions to the board. Supported ITT and RFP projects. Assisted the Project Manager with datacentre M&E projects – especially using Visio plans to optimise floor and rack space. Chaired weekly meetings Key Contributions:• As the main go-between with third party providers I took great care to maintain friendly relationships that work both ways, to foster business partnerships. • When BT/Openreach underwent their big business change which would affect our working relationship, I was tasked with investigating and comparing the various new terms of engagement on offer and negotiating the best possible partnership going forward - ensuring the best selection of products, at the best price with the best terms and guarantees.

Designed and produced bespoke luxury fashion and interior products. Developed products for manufacturers like Klein Karoo and Raiël. Design consultations on behalf of local jewellers. Maintaining my own books and gold register.Key Contributions:• Unlocked the potential of CAD models and renderings to sell virtual products and as a costing tool, saving a great deal of capital outlay, and putting my clients at the leading edge of jewellery design.

Researched, wrote and illustrated learning materials as part of the deployment of Outcomes-Based Education and Training (OBET) in South Africa. Edited and reformatted completed learning materials. Key Contributions:• My first learning material was held up by the MQA as the gold standard.• My clear, simple and neat CAD generated illustrations were just as highly praised.

In-house designer and producer for this luxury jeweller. Responsible for full life cycle of all bespoke production, shop-floor consultations with end-customers, supplier and manufacturer relations, buying, pricing, visual merchandising and point of sale. Procured insurance cover, logistics and security for special events/exhibitions. Represented Murdocks at lavish marketing events, television interviews, fashion shows, charity auctions, etc.Key Contributions:• Created inspiring sketches for end customers as well as technical drawings for manufacturers.• On a few occasions I had to fix seemingly impossible but costly problems (like an expensive dress ring turning out too small) in a very short space of time. This is where I had to meet with the end customer, put them as well as the sales consultant at ease, take careful measurements and notes, and negotiate with select manufacturers to see who can help.• I toed the fine line between supporting and abusing our very talented manufacturing partners and generous suppliers. Expressing heartfelt gratitude and appreciation goes a long way; my relationship with most of these businesses continued long after I left Murdocks.

Undertook various laboratory and field work (setting up, monitoring, photography, measurements, documentation), and proofing/editing, in Nuclear Physics (National Accelerator Centre, Faure) and Zoology (De Hoop Nature Reserve).Key Contributions:• I spent hours, days, nights working unsupervised, solving problems and making quick decisions, because pausing time on an expensive resource like a particle accelerator is not an option.

Collated and compared technical data of various nuclear dosimetry devices and systems on offer for a large bid to Koeberg Nuclear Power Station. Key Contributions:• Explored and procured new low-cost alternatives to existing technologies - e.g. Tyvek envelopes from stationers as a reasonable radiation barrier.
