The reports included in-depth data analysis reporting, information on local laws and conservation efforts in 16 countries across the globe, and recommendations to improve their conservation efforts. I developed and designed an experiment using nursery reared Acropora cervicornis corals to compare average growth rates at both coral reefs and within sea grass beds to determine if growth is affected by diurnal water chemistry changes being observed in these two distinct habitats. I also characterized a patch reef off of the Florida Keys using a modified AGRA survey, primarily via free diving, to gain a better quantification of total coral cover. A key component of the experiment was measuring… Show more I developed and designed an experiment using nursery reared Acropora cervicornis corals to compare average growth rates at both coral reefs and within sea grass beds to determine if growth is affected by diurnal water chemistry changes being observed in these two distinct habitats. I also characterized a patch reef off of the Florida Keys using a modified AGRA survey, primarily via free diving, to gain a better quantification of total coral cover. A key component of the experiment was measuring the water chemistry of the test seagrass bed, specifically measuring pCO2 in preparation for the experiment. As part of this, I took physical measurements of the seagrass bed to understand total biomass and productivity of the seagrass bed using quadrate surveys and wet weights.Key Achievements● Designed and executed a field experiment comparing coral growth rates, conducting fieldwork, data collection, and statistical analysis.● Mapped a patch reef off the Florida Keys, utilizing accurate surveying techniques and collaborating with research partners, providing critical baseline data for ongoing conservation efforts.Key Responsibilities● Designed and conducted a field experiment using nursery reared Acropora Cervicornis corals to compare average growth rates at both coral reefs and within seagrass beds, based on carbonate chemistry in these different ecosystems to assess if there will be areas of refugia for corals under climate change conditions.● Used a modified AGRRA survey to quantify total coral cover.● Measured and mapped the water chemistry of a seagrass bed and reef preparation for the experiment● Took physical measurements to understand the total biomass and productivity of the seagrass bed and reef using quadrate surveys and wet weights of seagrass and AGRRA surveys on the reef.
