My day started and finished with our people. It is the Lifting Solutions employees that make our Clients happy, ensure our products and services are delivered on time and grow our business. As the Human Resources (HR) Generalist, I influenced our most important asset – the Lifting Solutions team, by supporting the company and ensuring reliable human resources practices were applied across the organization while maintaining consistency with our values. Reporting directly to the President/CEO and working closely with our management teams, I was responsible for creating an HR presence by building this department from the ground up during an integral time for our company. When I started my key focus was ensuring a simple, inviting, and smooth transition for 123 new employees acquired with the purchase of all the Canadian continuous rod service assets from Weatherford’s Corod division. Lifting Solutions’ headcount doubled and our total fleet size increased from 70 to 320 pieces of equipment in less than a 6-week timeframe. Lifting Solutions went from 120 employees to employing over 240 people focused on manufacturing and distributing products and providing services to Canadian oil and gas producers. This was accomplished through the dedication and determination to do what was necessary to get the desired results. I was responsible for developing and implementing Human Resources tools, policies, and processes, performing all aspects of the full-cycle recruitment process, onboarding, performance management, employee relations, regulatory compliance, and administration of group benefits plan, retirement plan and employee HR records.

My main focus was staffing rig crews. With this focus, I resolved understaffing struggles, performed the full recruitment life cycle, provided knowledgeable guidance on disciplinary action and termination policies and procedures including compliance while administrating and executing disciplinary actions or terminations and any extraordinary requirements pertaining to my rig crews for the specific drilling contract they were completing (arranging crew flights/accommodations, pre-access drug & alcohol testing/requirements, safety training, invoicing, and an acting liaison between field employees and our benefits, payroll, training, safety recognition & HSE departments). On average I coordinated approximately 400-500 employees in an unpredictable industry with a very fast paced, high stress, high volume environment. In my 11 years with the company, of Precision Drilling’s total fleet of 135 drilling rigs, I've been responsible for 26 to 32 drilling rigs in respects to all HR and personnel-related matters. Each rig works with a total of 2-3 permanent crews & each crew consisted of 5-8 employees.

I accepted a temporary contract in a very demanding, fast-paced, high volume environment with Grey Wolf Drilling, Precision Drilling's International Drilling Operations, as a member of their Talent Acquisition Team. My office was based in Nisku, AB but I reported directly to my Human Resources Manager’s in Calgary, AB and Dubai, UAE. My jobs main focus was staffing two new rig builds, for long-term contracts in Kuwait, with a senior staff of drilling rig crews who were reputable leaders, dedicated team players, and had a strong safety culture mindset. Senior staff consisted of Assistant Drillers, Drillers, Night Supervisors, Rig Managers, Rig Mechanics and Rig Electricians. We had 38 senior staff members successfully go through the pre-employment interview, training and onboarding processes within a three-month period. Within the first 90 days there was a 98% retention rate with all senior staff hired. With this job I pre-screened over 5000 possible applicants, coordinated in-person panel interviews with potential candidates, aided with interviewing, organized & coordinated pre-employment safety training, and processed all onboarding paperwork, legal documents, out of country work permits and visa requirements.
