I have more than 25 years general insurance experience, first as a general insurance broker and now as a general insurance lawyers with Hall & Wilcox. As a broker, I managed a broad portfolio of commercial and domestic clients in a range of industries including marine, construction, heavy plant and machinery, property development, aged care, transport and logistics, motor dealerships, mechanics, and general retail trade. Getting to know my client’s business and risk profile then matching that with the most appropriate suite of insurance policies was my bread and butter for many years. I gained a wealth of insurance industry knowledge and policy interpretation skills, and developed solid negotiation, claims management and relationship building skills that I carry with me today. While I enjoyed being a broker, there came a time when I needed a greater challenge. I’d always loved the law so when a change in my personal circumstances created an opportunity, I jumped at the chance to significantly up-skill and went off and I gained my law degree (with honours) and grabbed a Diploma of Applied Blockchain at the same time. I flipped my life around in 4.5 years and now enjoy learning how to be a great lawyer in one of the best insurance litigation teams in the country.Initially I worked with the statutory insurance team for twelve months as a paralegal and also did a rotation back into that team while in my graduate year. By this point I had well and truly caught the personal injury insurance litigation bug, but didn’t want to be restricted to statutory insurance litigation so I opted to join to general insurance casualty team. I absolutely love working in this practice, and I hope to broaden my skillset with more marine insurance in the future. A second career in law is my dream come true and I can’t wait to see what the future holds.
