About Ren Kai Tan

I am Tan Ren Kai - a MPhil researcher with University of Newcastle upon Tyne. I am a Provost's List and First-Class Honours graduate from the Bachelor of Engineering with Honours in Mechanical Design and Manufacturing Engineering (MDME) direct honours degree programme at Singapore Institute of Technology - Newcastle University. I am also the recipient of the Edusave Good Progress Award 2017.I am keen to apply and challenge myself in the world of robotics, automation and manufacturing to evolve the symbiosis between data analytics, machine learning, data science, and the aforementioned elements. I am currently the technical lead at A*STAR's Science and Engineering Research Council entity, the National Metrology Centre for MPA's Electronic Bunkering Delivery Note (eBDN) project. As a Research Engineer, I work on a multitude of difficult challenges that are posed to Singapore's industries - from complex mechanical problems to open systems interconnection model projects. I am also involved with I2R and Keppel to overhaul critical infrastructure and manufacturing within Singapore's industries. Concurrently, I am also undertaking a MPhil in Automation and Robotics with the University of Newcastle upon Tyne, where my focus is on "GAN-Narrate", an algorithm that allows partial reconstruction of disrupted input data to potentially replace complex DH equations based on a modified GAN modelling principle and "Expediting Convergence via Polling Optimisation", an experimental optimser based on a modified bootstrap aggregating principle. The algorithms developed with and deployed within A*STAR. • https://github.com/Kaitannn/Polling-Optimisation-for-Gradient-Descent• https://github.com/Kaitannn/GAN-NarrateI also spent 6 months as an intern at Univac Precision Engineering Pte Ltd. as a Process Engineer; attendant of duties such as supervising the Quality Management System policies to maintain ISO 7-8 Medical Cleanroom standards (Class 10,000 and 100,000), to performing data analytical Overall Equipment Efficiency studies for the Johnson & Johnson OPO73/OPO71 Tubing phacoemulsification pack assembly line. During my internship, I embarked as the developer of The Flow ASsiTing (FAST) Device Project. The project is a hardware/software solution running on intranet that utilises Machine Learning, Digital-Twinning and Data Analytics to regulate productivity for the Q-POC™ SARS-CoV-2 Assay Covid-19 Test Kits assembly lines.
