Rex (rex-daugherty.com) is a DC based theatre artist and currently serves as the Artistic Director of Theatre at Solas Nua. Originally from Oklahoma City, Oklahoma, he has made the DC area his home since 2007.As AD of Solas Nua since 2015 Rex has garnered international acclaim for his productions, earned multiple Helen Hayes Awards and nominations, and provided the company with steady growth. Under his leadership, the company's theatre budget has increased 25x since he began, and every year post-pandemic he has averaged an increase of over 30% in ticket sales. His work has been internationally featured in The New York Times, The New Yorker, The Washington Post, on the cover of American Theatre Magazine, The Irish Times, aired on RTE - Ireland’s national broadcast, The Scotsman, Edinburgh Guide, British Theatre Guide, The Telegraph - Nigeria, and The Guardian - Nigeria. Recently, his solo-performance of THE SMUGGLER was picked by The New York Times as readers' choice "best productions of 2019." His production of THE FREDERICK DOUGLASS PROJECT was named "best theatre of the year" by The Washington Post, Washington City Paper, DC Theatre Scene, and DC Metro Theatre Arts. This year, his world premiere production of THE HONEY TRAP received 10 Helen Hayes nominations, including Outstanding Choreography and Outstanding Production for Rex & Solas Nua. As an actor, he has performed at The Kennedy Center, The Shakespeare Theatre Company, The National Theatre, The Warner Theatre, Ford's Theatre, Signature Theatre, Round House Theatre, Folger Theatre, Rep Stage, Solas Nua, and Off Broadway at 59E59. Daugherty has received three Helen Hayes nominations as part of Outstanding Ensembles and is a proud member of Actors’ Equity Association. He has directed productions at Solas Nua, 1st Stage, Theater Alliance, No Rules Theatre Company, Imagination Stage, Arts on the Horizon, Wayside Theatre, Oklahoma Shakespeare, Reduxion Theatre Company, and the Oklahoma City Civic Center. Rex has written several plays/musicals which have enjoyed over 20 regional theatre productions. His play SNOW DAY was picked as one of the best 12 shows in the nation for the American Theatre for the Very Young Digital Festival and his play BEEP BEEP, which he also directed, received a Helen Hayes Nomination for Outstanding TYA Production. His new musical THE DEVIL & JUNE GANTRY, co-written with NY Times Best selling author, Steve Spotswood, was a semi-finalist at The American Musical Theatre Festival at The Eugene O'Neill Center.
