I'm Head of Demand and Flexibility at Regen, leading work at the nexus of technology, policy and human behaviour. By bringing together knowledge about energy system infrastructure, the policies and practices that shape it, and the way people interact with it, my work highlight’s opportunities for policy and industry to drive a better, fairer and faster energy system transition to net-zero. I specialise in work exploring the role of the demand side in energy system transformation, the emerging opportunities for people to interact with energy systems in new ways, and the policy and practice changes needed to unlock innovation and transition.Alongside my role at Regen I'm Chief Strategy Officer at See Change Institute, a US based research institute that studies and shapes the role of human behaviour in social and environmental change. I received my DPhil from the University of Oxford in 2010, where I worked in the Energy and Power Group. Since then I have travelled the globe, leading large research and innovation programmes in New Zealand, the US and the UK that leverage state-of-the-art research and innovation to support real world policy and practice changes. When I'm not working, I spend time co-hosting the Local Zero podcast, surfing the Cornish coastline and experimenting with vegan cooking.

In the first I am a researcher and project manager for the Oxford Martin Programme on Integrating Renewable Energy; the University’s seminal research project that explores the technical, social, market, and regulatory challenges around increasing renewables in electricity systems as the world adapts to a low carbon future. In the second I am responsible for developing research programmes to catalyse a living lab at the University. This aims to stimulate collaboration between practitioners and the researchers within the university and: (1) facilitate world-class applied research, (2) enhance learning to guide and improve practice, and (3) support the University’s transition to a low carbon future. -

LecturerVictoria University Of Wellington Nov 2013 - Feb 2015School Of Engineering And Computer ScienceI am a lecturer in the School of Engineering and Computer Science at Victoria University of Wellington, New Zealand, where I teach and co-ordinate a number of first year courses. I am also supervising 4th year honours project students and postgraduate research students who conduct research in areas aligned to my own interests and expertise. My research focuses on the development and evaluation of emerging Smart Grid technologies. Specifically, I am interested in how households interact with emerging energy related technologies, and how social science insights can be applied to develop technological solutions to improve energy efficiency (at the household and grid level), reduce carbon emissions, and explore new mechanisms for implementing demand management to improve energy resilience at the local, regional, and national level.I am part of a team working on 2 national research projects in this space: (1) Renewable Energy and the Smart Grid (http://www.otago.ac.nz/csafe/research/energy/otago050285.html), and (2) Energy Cultures (http://www.otago.ac.nz/csafe/research/otago049909.html). In addition I have a number of smaller research projects looking at (3) energy use and demand management in developing countries, and (4) behaviour based energy efficiency programs. -
