By working with fellow lab mates and my lab manager, I was able to develop several skills. I learned how to effectively communicate with others and be part of a team. I started to work on thinking critically, especially when it came to reading research papers and analyzing the results from my experiments. I saw the importance of being organized, since our lab had to constantly share our data. In order to do so, everyone had to do their part by being detail-oriented and thoroughly explaining their projects. This experience taught me several skills that can be transferrable to several labs - following protocols, cell culturing, creating a poster of my work, and being able to present scientific findings. As a tutor, I got to develop my passion for learning and teaching. I taught geometry, algebra II, and calculus to a total of five students. I was constantly creating study guides, lesson plans, and practice problems. This role allowed me to counsel students through difficult subjects and work with them to better their understanding of concepts. This taught me how to be patient because often times I would have to readjust the way I presented a topic if it did not make sense.
