Medical Laboratory Scientist, Point-Of-Care Testing
CurrentQuality Management:• Directly involved in the Quality Management System as the Quality Representative at POCT, ensuring compliance to ISO 15189:2012 and ISO 22870:2016 standards:- documentation and proactive resolution of non-conformities;- review of IQC and EQA performance, uncertainty of measurements, SOPs and change requests;- performance of audits (vertical, horizontal witness and clinical) and data integrity checks;- attendance of monthly Pathology Quality Meetings and implementing any appropriate changes discussed to drive continual improvement of the service. • Involved in maintaining INAB accreditation for the POCT service.• Proficient in the use of Q-pulse and its modules.Laboratory Skills:• Managed the day-to-day functions of POCT analysers, including the ABL90 Flex, Prime Plus, StatStrip Glucose/Ketone meters, ROTEM sigma, CoaguChek XS Pro, HemoCue Hb201 DM, Hemochron (GEM 100 and Signature Elite models), DCA Vantage and i-STAT analysers.• Conducted training and competency assessments for clinical and laboratory staff in the proficient use of POCT devices.• Validation and verification of new POCT analysers.• Prepared reports and presentations for annual management reviews and POCT operational and steering group meetings.• Participated in POCT and Haematology Laboratory on-call rosters.Health & Safety: • Involved in maintaining the safety standards as the Health and Safety Representative at POCT by:- performing risk assessments associated with POCT equipment and processes, implementing control strategies to minimise risks to patient safety;- maintaining records of compulsory staff training records and coordinating training sessions with relevant personnel as required, and;- attending bimonthly meetings with the Pathology Health and Safety Committee to discuss safety-related issues, propose improvements, and collaborate on ensuring a safe work environment.
