Mr. Mahmud entered his professional career with NPOLY when it was run as a small family business, which concentrated mainly on trading. A small unit had been set up to manufacture PVC compounds. Since then, he has transformed a primarily trading entity into a business Group that concentrates fully on manufacturing. Today, NPOLY has six SBUs, ranging from a leader in PVC pipes, doors, water tanks, export-oriented footwear, household products, plastic furniture, and more. He has transformed NPOLY into a well-defined corporate entity, where delegation of responsibilities is not only encouraged but also a prerequisite for survival. Today, The Group’s day-to-day operations are run by highly competent individuals who run their departments with full authority and responsibility. Mr Mahmud retains the functional responsibility of strategic vision, and organizational change as the Group diversifies and grows, as well as decides and drives key investment decisions. His leadership and thought provide the direction of the corporate culture of the Group.He has also taught at North South University in the School of Business and Economics, both in its BBA and EMBA Programs; at IBA, as well at Victoria University. He is well respected amongst his students who are spread across almost any sector in Bangladesh; whether in profit or non-profit sectors. He has and still speaks at seminars as a Management Expert, and sits in leadership positions on several trade bodies in Bangladesh. Mr. Mahmud is the Honorary Consul of Georgia in Bangladesh, where he represents the Georgian Government through its Ministry of Foreign Affairs. This position is confirmed by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs in Bangladesh to citizens of exceptional standing within the country. Through his thought process, the Group is committed to “Clean and Green” manufacturing; a testament to this philosophy is its Footwear unit, which is the first LEED Gold-certified factory in Bangladesh; its new industrial complex is also following all conditions of LEED Gold certification and will become the first LEED accredited plastics industrial manufacturing complex in Bangladesh within the next few months.
