About Richard Anderson

I work to extend the reach, role, and nature of “human-centered design (thinking),” mostly so it can better address social and environmental issues and enable others (including businesses) to do so.     Most recently taught some of my workshops here (e.g., "Designing more effectively for social impact"), moderate panels (e.g., "Are designers becoming the new activists?"), conduct interviews on stage (e.g., of a designer about her unconventional path into and through the design profession), gave talks to classes (e.g., "Design as activism"), ...Formerly, taught (mostly) working professionals the methods and principles of user experience design (defined broadly) in a manner contributing to the needed disruption of the UX design education space. Taught the multi-project-based full-time (10-week, 5 days a week, 8+ hours a day) immersive course (I taught it 7 times), enabling a career change; screened potential clients of all types (though mostly startups) and selected from multiple options for student projects. Also taught the 12-week part-time course, a special 2-hour introductory workshop several times, a SXSW introduction, and more. Each teaching assignment included curriculum design and development, often impacting course offerings globally. Participated in developing strategy for the company, including co-authoring proposals for new ventures.
