About Anthony Riccio

The 21st century has brought with it both unique pedagogical opportunities and new inequities. I strive to meet the needs of my students who must contend with those challenges using culturally responsive and relational strategies that build upon cultural and personal strengths. I use dialogue, retrospection, and narrative to nurture students into emotionally validated, culturally competent, and intellectually invested learners.

The course traced the development of the game through its early stages in Industrial Age New York, its spread South during the Civil War, towards its emergence as America’s National Pastime and its use as a tool of diplomacy and a weapon against racial prejudice in the 20th century. Supplementary units include Baseball in American Literature and the Physics of Baseball. Developed a comprehensive syllabus of world literature to be taught cross-curricularly in the 10th grade Global Studies Class and the 10th Grade English class. Unique accommodations were made for students reading below and above grade level.

The course traced the development of the technology and examined the uses of historical narrative by American, European, and Asian filmmakers. Supervised and advised students as they developed, researched, and completed year long, multi-disciplinary Senior Projects. Each project included formal research, a 20-page paper, and a 20-minute oral presentation with Power Point slides.
