Created new programs to: protect listed and rare species from pesticides; and enhance fish and wildlife habitat on Putah Creek. Founded the Endangered Species Program at the CALEPA Department of Pesticide Regulation. Created an Internet database application called PRESCRIBE that provides custom use limitations for user selected pesticides and locations, comprehensive for 300 pesticide active ingredients and over 1,000 species; incorporating biological opinions and local plans developed with farmers and species experts. Became the first Streamkeeper of Lower Putah Creek, a position created by a settlement agreement that ended 10 years of litigation over flows. Restored Chinook salmon runs of ~1,000 spawning fish per year and doubled bird populations over 20 years. Increased populations of obligate riparian nesting birds even as regional populations of the same species declined. Resolved excessive riparian diversions through dialogue with riparian landowners.Created a 10,000 sq foot native plant nursery in partnership with CALFIRE. Developed a fertigation program to manage phytotoxicity of Davis municipal water by managing alkalinity and excess boron. Raised $14 million in grant funding for physical and biological assessments, weed control, bank stabilization, geomorphic restoration and habitat enhancement. Implemented gravel scarification to restore viable spawning habitat. Oversee a multidisciplinary team of ecologists, soil scientists, aquatic biologists, geomorphologists and fish and wildlife biologists.Farmed 125 acres of apples in Sebastopol, CA. created and operated direct marketing fruit stand that generated half of revenues from 1% of production. Improved quality through comprehensive plant nutrient and pest control programs and improved cultural practices.
