I started my working life as a town planner, and was employed in local authorities and as a planning consultant between 1983 and 1991. I then worked in urban and coalfield regeneration between 1991 and 2008, for local authorities/regeneration partnerships in South Yorkshire. I joined the Association for Project Management (APM) in 2000, and have contributed over many years to their Benefits and Value Management interest groups. While working in regeneration, I completed a Doctorate in Business Administration (DBA) at Sheffield Hallam University (SHU). My thesis title was 'Joining up public services: a critical realist framework for holistic governance'. After a brief spell running my own business (ODF Perspectives) I became a full time lecturer in 2009, specialising in organisational change management. I was one of the course leaders for the SHU DBA programme, and I have been on the Committee of the Executive DBA Council, the global body fostering excellence and innovation in executive doctoral degrees. As a Sheffield Hallam University Emeritus Fellow I am now combining some voluntary supervision of SHU DBA researchers with academic writing projects. I am looking for further opportunities for part-time paid work, especially in remote doctoral supervision. I am a UK Council for Graduate Education (UKCGE) Recognised Research Supervisor.
