My expertise is in bridge building, motivation and marketing as well as in managing the complex array of internal and external business factors that require constant monitoring and careful attention in order for a facility to function effectively. I have a genuine belief in the ideals of empowered resident centered-community. It is this vision of a new culture of eldercare in which all stakeholders participate in decisions that make their lives work more effectively that has provided the framework for all my efforts. The results have been high census, high private pay ratios, low staff turnover and good spirited environments that have challenged the negative stereotypes of nursing homes.As a manager, it’s my job to motivate, educate, set standards of accountability and provide the resources for others to do their jobs. Quality of life, good care outcomes and a good bottom line are connected. I have fostered these by championing meaningful communications among all stakeholders including residents, staff, family members, discharge planners, ombudsmen and state surveyors. Organizations, in which everyone champions the attitude and belief that all people need a sense of connection to the world and people around them, provide meaning for the elders and a sense of purpose and commitment to those who serve them.
