Specialising as a Systems Engineer for the integration of mission equipment on to a commercial aircraft.

As a system engineer I was responsible for the design and integration of navigation systems, and also assisted with design and integration for display systems, flight management systems and communication systems. I liaised with both the customer and suppliers, supporting design reviews in the UK and, on occasion, at supplier bases in Germany and the USA. I was also actively involved in the rig integration testing, including diagnosis of integration issues and providing solutions to problems that were encountered.I have also worked as a design engineer on the design, integration and test of a major avionics modification to a Lockheed L-1011 for a military customer. I was responsible for a large proportion of the system design and integration for the navigation systems, display systems, surveillance systems and FMS. I was heavily involved with both rig- and aircraft-based system integration testing, including diagnosis of integration problems and liaising with suppliers and aircraft technicians to provide effective solutions. I actively participated in the aircraft flight trials, through technical advice during the pre- and post-flight briefings, and also providing technical advice and assistance in-flight.After that project I changed focus to become a member of a small team investigating the introduction of a Product Lifecycle Management (PLM) system. I was responsible for capturing the company requirements for a PLM system and seeking improvements to company processes. As part of the team responsible for assessing the suitability of PLM products from a variety of vendors, I was jointly responsible for recommending the best solution for the company.I subsequently worked on a project integrating mission equipment into a new commercial aircraft. I spent four months at QinetiQ as a placement during my Masters degree. My work specialised in synthetic environments within the Simulation team, producing representations of autonomous Emergency services vehicles, and integration commands via speech recognition.

As a Summer placement I assisted with the installation of a Gas Turbine exhaust emission monitoring system, and the integration of the system into the Gas Turbine test control room.
