Richard joined the Building Performance Centre and RMP acoustics in 1992 and has over 18 years of experience in the fields of acoustic research and consultancy.Richard has extensive consultancy experience in major building acoustics projects. These include the 2001 Stirling Prize winning Magna Project in Rotherham, the 2008 RIBA Prize winning Scottish Storytelling Centre in Edinburgh, Great Northern Tower in Manchester, Great Glen House in Inverness – Sustainable Building of the Year 2006 and the 2009 Scottish Design Award Grand Prix winner Beatson Cancer Research Facility in Glasgow.In 2002, Richard and his team won the tender to project manage the Robust Standard Details (RSD) project. The project was funded by the Home Builders Federation in reaction to the new requirements in Part E to undertake compulsory sound insulation testing.The RSD project was the largest research project ever carried out by the construction industry over such an intensive and short time period. In 2010, the Robust Standard Details Project was awarded the Queen’s Anniversary Prize for the improve quality of life that the new innovative construction achieved.In 2008, Richard and his team won the tender to undertake a review of Section 5 – Domestic Noise of Scottish Building Regulation, the Scottish equivalent of Part E of the Building Regulation (England and Wales). In 2006, Richard and his team were commissioned by the Scottish Executive, Scottish Building Standards Agency, Communities Scotland and Historic Scotland to prepare the definitive guidance on sound insulation and housing in Scotland. In 2001 Richard co-managed the team that developed the Occupant Equivalent Rating (OCR). The OCR was developed to establish a link between sound insulation performance and residents subjective impression of the sound insulation quality of there property.
