little DESIGN LAB aims to develop students’ creative critical problem solving abilities by teaching a design learning curriculum. The purpose is to supplement current STEAM standards by introducing design based projects that foster cohesive development. To do so, the little DESIGN LAB curriculum shall stress the entirety of the methodology, including but not limited to: research, development / exploration, experimentation / execution, evaluation and reiteration.At little DESIGN LAB, we believe in learning through doing. As such, our curriculum is structured around hands-on experiences. These lessons are meant to teach students through doing, through failing and through trying again. Because learning is a continuum, we follow a design-thinking methodology which focuses on process rather than simply aiming for some arbitrary end result. Going beyond traditional K-12 education, little DESIGN LAB aspires to integrate the entirety of the learning experience by balancing the fundamentals of STEAM with the ingenuity of design. It is our ambition to provide a supportive environment which fosters critical thinking, analysis and application. Students shall be taught how to think. Our objective is to instill every student with the skills, confidence and poise to address any problem; whether it is in their careers or just in everyday life. Below is a working curriculum which outlines a general syllabus. Actual syllabi and projects shall be coordinated accordingly and adjusted as necessary.

Co-Managed Woodbury University’s Digital Fabrication Lab. Oversaw the overall well-being of the shop’s equipment and accessibility for all students. Fully redeveloped managerial manuals, protocols and procedures to maximize efficiency and clarity, increasing work-flow and minimizing resource waste. Guiding a team of Student Technicians; providing knowledge and inspiring work ethic standards. Maintaining schedules, budgets and resources. Developed extensive fabrication curriculum for Laser Engravers, 3D Printers and CNC Routers. Taught design fundamental courses to incoming Graduate Students and High School Juniors and Seniors.

Fostering a bridge between pure aesthetic design standards with energy, thermal and comfort considerations in order to develop architecture that perform and meet low to zero net energy standards. Critiquing student designs to meet typical architectural requirements that incorporate energy, thermal and comfort demands through hand calculations and software simulations. Discuss design evaluations and that are practical / feasible while demanding rigorous application of class information to seek and explore novel innovations.

Encouraging students to embrace real world solutions to meet the demands and necessities of schools in Cambodia, Zimbabwe and South Africa by utilizing empirical experimentations bolstered through software simulations. Working with students on physical models to demonstrate lighting, thermal and ventilation designs by employing light sensors, wind tunnel tests and hand calculations. Empirical tests are then compared to energy and CFD software simulations to understand design limitations and provide a platform for further explorations.
