Richard Ray is a 32 year veteran of the fire service with both volunteer and career experience. He is a member of the Creedmoor Volunteer Fire Dept. (NC). He is also a career firefighter with the Durham Fire Dept. (NC) where he is a Battalion Chief and an adjunct instructor for the training division. He is a certified instructor who instructs on volunteer fire dept operations, live fire, strategy and tactics, and engine company operations. He has presented at the Fire Department Instructors Conference (FDIC) 2012 through 2024. He is also a member of the FDIC International Advisory Board. He presented at The South Atlantic Fire Rescue Expo (SAFRE) 2013 through 2024. He is also a member of the SAFRE Educational Committee. He has presented at the Metro Atlanta Firefighters Conference (MAFFC) 2016, the SC Fire Rescue Conference 2015 through 2024. He presented at Virginia’s Fire Chiefs Association Fire and Rescue Conference 2018 through 2024. He has also been published in Fire Engineering Magazine and the Carolina Fire Rescue Journal. He is a member of the International Society of Fire Service Instructors. He is also a member of FSRI Size Up and Search & Rescue and the Multi-Story Residential Tactics Technical Panel.
