Contract Strategy & Management
Waltham, Ma
For 7+ years I worked within the Contract Management department at National Grid. My role continually evolved during my tenure, culminating in building an industry leading Contract Strategy & Management department. My functions included: contract strategy, contract management, systems / reporting, and storm response. Contract StrategyMy team and I developed the strategy for National Grid’s construction contract portfolio covering a variety of construction services (substations, t-line, OH & UG distribution, civil, matting, etc), encompassing almost $300 million dollars in spend annually. For each contract, we developed the framework, led the RFP, created the evaluation methodology, negotiated pricing and terms, and selected contractors to fill the roles. Contract ManagementOnce each contract was established, my team was responsible for ensuring adherence and resolving disputes. To effectively govern these relationships, I created a custom Contract Specification for each arrangement. This document outlined the key processes and management policies, providing all stakeholders a clear understanding of the rules of engagement. Systems / ReportingLed the team responsible for maintaining and developing National Grid’s Contract Management systems. We maintained a patchwork of legacy systems, developing new components to fill gaps as needed. Storm ResponseOn blue sky days, I established relationships with vendors, streamlined the storm contracts, and built / trained a team to effectively procure, process, and track resources during storms. When severe weather struck, I procured external crews to support the restoration effort across National Grid’s entire US service territory. Upon taking over these responsibilities, I quadrupled National Grid’s ability to secure resources and reduced the average cost of obtaining these resources.
