I coached approximately 80 students attending both public and private universities across the state of California. By holding deliberate and focused coaching sessions throughout a student’s matriculation we work together to create a plan for success that takes into account all aspects of a student’s life, from the personal to the professional. The topics of these sessions run the gamut, from personal wellness and community building to course planning, financial management, professional development (i.e. internships, resume writing, etc.), graduate school applications and everything in between. I am grateful for the opportunity to witness, on a daily basis, the profound and positive effect higher education has not only on students but also their families and communities.

• Directed and was the co-principal investigator for a grant-funded GEAR-UP academy hosted by Western Kentucky University. o Twenty-students from socioeconomically disadvantaged counties in Kentucky stay on campus, attending courses focused on the STEM fields such as architecture and manufacturing sciences, mathematics and sustainability. o These courses are also tied-in to experiential learning opportunities, such as a visit to the Corvette Manufacturing Plant, that provide students the opportunity to explore potential careers. o Students also learn leadership, social responsibility and the value of service learning through their participation in The Hundred Dollar Solution (THDS) which teaches students five principals; reciprocity, partnership, capacity building, sustainability, and reflection. Students are split into teams and partnered with a community service to develop and implement a project, based on the five principles, which can be implemented using only the $100 and any donations. o Supervised a staff of five WKU student staff and maintained contact with GEAR-UP staff to deal with any emergencies.

• Appointed to serve as co-chair on the second WKU Student Success Summit, a one day conference focused on sharing best practices within departments. Over 150 faculty and staff participated• Currently serving as an inaugural committee member of the WKU Practical Applications for Student Success (P.A.S.S.) winter orientation program for new and returning undergraduates• Assisted with the data collection and assessment for more than 15,000 undergraduate students. Specific tasks included developing reports utilizing MAPWorks data for the academic colleges and specialized programs• Participated in senior-level executive meetings such as the Retention Task Force (RTF) and the National Science Foundation (NSF) Louis Stokes Alliance for Minority Participation (LSAMP) state-wide committee to plan programs and contribute to discussions on retention strategies

• Coordinated information sessions and luncheons for WKU’s Summer Early Entry (SEE) program, a program designed to support more than 100 students enrolled in developmental courses prior to the start of the fall term• Collaborated with Student Support Services to develop a speaker series. The program was specifically developed to increase students’ awareness regarding financial aid requirements, strategies for academic success, financial literacy, stress management and opportunities for volunteerism and leadership• Facilitated numerous program assessment activities that included a focus group to assess the effectiveness of the SEE program and a Qualtrics survey to assess student needs and overall satisfaction

• Served as a member of the Academic Advising & Retention Center (AARC) staff which provides advising for WKU’s undergraduate students • Collaborated with the Financial Aid Advisor in the Retention Center to meet and advise students at risk of losing financial aid due to academic performance. This involved both 1-on-1 meetings with students as well as group presentations to review and explain SAP requirements. • Developed and facilitated academic plans for each student and referrals were made if necessary. • Supervised undergraduate student staff in the evening at the main and satellite learning centers.
