As SME Engagement Manager my role is to take the lead in contacting SME’s in the Leeds City Region to explain the work carried out at SRSMRF, highlight the opportunity, identify support required by SMEs to exploit the opportunities created by SRSMRF and assist SMEs find a route to market.The University of Huddersfield’s Institute of Railway Research has been successful in securing ERDF funding to develop a Smart Rolling Stock Maintenance Research Facility. Delivered through the Northern Powerhouse, the Programme’s primary objectives will be to:1. Enhance the University of Huddersfield’s world-class research capabilities with a new smart rolling stock maintenance research facility that will deliver world class research meeting the requirements of the region and national rail industry.2. Establish a permanent Smart Rolling Stock Maintenance Research Facility that interlinks regional businesses with UK and international rail supply chains to develop optimal technologies and processes to digitalise and operationally streamline the rail industry; thereby helping to improve the cost efficiency and operational reliability of the railways. 3. Stimulate interest in smart maintenance systems and techniques which regional SMEs can work with SRSMRF to exploit. The project will establish an innovation infrastructure to support the development of new or improved services, processes and products to increase operational efficiency.
