Working innovatively, with thermal cameras, we introduced automatic queue counting and predictive scheduling, increasing the accuracy of queue measurement and reducing idle time at checkouts. We also insured Tesco were the first major supermarket to rollout self-checkouts in the UK, delivering significant customer and labour saving benefits

I influenced the Tesco Board to adopt a simple six level structure called Work Levels, together with a broad-banded pay structure. Work Levels gave Tesco greater flexibility in developing and deploying staff as well a provided the basis for all organisation design work done since.
