Media And Communications Officer (Birmingham)

Gb

In this role I was responsible for local communications and pro-active media releases across the west and centre of Birmingham. This included media management during several high profile cases, planning and communications during the Olympic Games, a high-profile visit from the queen and social media communications during the 2011 riots. I was also responsible for the managament and maintenance of 25 local policing team web pages as well as setting up the city's award-winning @brumpolice twitter account. More than 300 press releases were featured in both local and national press and media outlets, with many being picked up by the BBC, The Sun, the Daily Mail and BBC Radio 1. I also launched several social media accounts across the city, setting up the @brumpolice twitter account in 2011. This channel gained positive national and international media coverage thanks to a series of 'world firsts' that I was responsible for. This included the first 'live' tweeting of a drugs raid and a 24-hour forensic tweet-a-thon that gained worldwide attention via the BBC World Service. The account continued to innovate and was nominated for several national awards in 2012. I used social media following the riots of 2011 to inform people of policing activity and to negate rumour. My tweets also resulted in dozens of rioters being identified after CCTV images were shared widely on the platform. This role saw me attending daily management meetings with senior officers to brief them on media updates, while I also worked hard to share messages with key members of the community during times of crisis.More to follow.
