About Richard Hyde

My focus is on shipping new products. Mostly this has meant taking new ideas or research concepts and adapting them into implementations that can be used by customers. Understanding customer needs and how to make users more efficient without telling them to change everything they do is the key. Adaptive and iterative change is the most comfortable path for most industries and individuals. Most of my work has been on the boundary between research ideas and product development. I specialize in making the transition happen.I have experience designing, implementing, and debugging complete systems of all types. I also have experience in working in production, development, and research, environments. Although each of these environments is different, and each tends to attract different types of individuals, I understand the requirements of each environment and can generally communicate comfortably with the different organization.I have been involved with networking since working on maintaining the NCP <-> TCP gateway at Purdue in 1982, helping with the X.25 IP tunneling, and bring up one of the early IP/TCP Ethernets there. I have experience with almost every aspect of network computing. In working on many work practice automation projects I have found that enabling more efficient work practices without requiring radical change is the most successful path to pursue.
