I lead a team of solution developers and provide architecture and design support for both the team and the sales force. We gather requirements, provide the solutions design for the SOW, provide mockups and functional descriptions, which once accepted we use to develop custom solutions customers and market segments. I lead a team of both local and off shore developers to develop these solutions.I also continue to provide architecture and design for the existing product lines that the Xerox Content Management group support, which in addition to some custom vertical apps includes the DocuShare product line. I am responsible for several of the automation and workflow integrations and extension to the core system.

Joined the DocuShare business unit. Concentrating on improving the BPM functionality on the CPX product line. Designed the Content Rule sub-system, and have been evangelizing for BPM functionality inside the development team. Work with product management to define high impact features we can add with limited resources. Work on improving the framework so that each release can have a significantly improved set of features for both the end user and the ISV. Balance time between design, evangelism, and implementation.

Developed the FlowPort document distribution system that interfaced Xerox and other manufacture networked scanners to a wide varied of document management systems. Developed a server architecture that supported dynamically plugable applications and repository adapters for eventual 17 different repositories. Developed a HTTP/XML based protocol that allowed clients to integrate and access full functionality of the applications and server. (Before SOAP and WS protocols were available, but informed our involvement in the standards work that lead to them.) Worked with ISV's to provide them with the interfaces they needed to integrate with their products. Developed VB library to allow Office apps to function as clients to server functionality. This allowed users to get their jobs done without having to see any unnecessary UI, the tools they were familiar with using every day.Advised on a .Net port of basic functionality.

Designed and implemented the device management and I/O control portion of a multi-function device IM200 (copy/fax/print) device with integrated paper forms directed document storage and re trivial for Fuji Xerox. Collaborated with the rest of the team on the system design and implementation. Advanced system supported dynamic application loading, and multiple application versions. Core interpreted system, with advanced image processing was able to be extremely flexible, yet process images at rated hardware speeds. Held schedules even when partner changed requirements at the last moment.

Designed and implemented multi-media software framework for next generation of DEC workstations. Worked with the hardware designers to get the necessary system trade-offs built into the system so the we could deliver the right functionality in a cost effect manner. Supported networked synchronized audio and video playback, audio and recording, speech recognition, and shared device access. Also integrated ISDN networking support. Shipped the first version, helped organize and put on a developer conference, before Digital decided to abandon workstation market.

Ran the wrecking crew for an accelerated development project. Delivered a new workstation. (New compiler, architecture, MIPS processor, and OS port concept to ship in 9 months.) Assisted in fault isolation of both hardware and software issues, rapid response, and patch distribution. Qualified peripherals and components, tracking down sources on customer dissatisfaction. Typically turn around time less than 24 hours on significant issue to encourage user feedback. Established personal trust with user base to allow us to move with unusual speed. Built prototypes for demos, managed technicians, bug reporting data bases, QA personnel, and worked with other team members to make it happen.

Joined the Western Software Lab:First project was the X11R1 development effort. Worked on the design and implementation of Xlib, Xtk, and initial clients. Also low level thread support for server for display postscript support, and support for several new workstations. Also worked on the follow on releases.

Project Leader, VAX UNIX team. Shipped the first 5 releases of their UNIX products, hired the team from a group of 10 to 80 engineers. Developed packaging and configuration strategy. Worked with X/Open and Posix standard's definition. Served as the architect and technical leader for the team. Represented the UNIX interest on internal architecture committees.Ship IP subnetting over a year before the competition.Sponsored research at several universities, and sat on ARPA committees overseeing Berkeley UNIX development. Also interfaced with MIT Athena project and sold DEC on developing X workstations.

Shipping the first 32 bit UNIX system from Digital Equipment Corporation, working on next generation hardware and software issues. Shipped the first commercial IPv4 Subneting release years before our competition.

Developing and maintaining tools and systems to support the department. Developed early laser printer software to support the newly available laser printers. Installed Ethernet and got it working with IP/TCP. General system administration and other tasks.

Repeat summer job started soon after they had their first system up. Eventually they had 4 systems, 3 in full production mode 12 hours 5 days a week. Operation support. Basic support of operation staff. backup operator DECsystem 10 for when operators did not show. Developed Inventory management system for physical assets.
