I have this tiny metal engraved message by C.S. Lewis nestled inconspicuously on our kitchen window seal: "You're never too old to dream a new dream." Well, I'm dreaming. I'm ready. I recently finished reading Donald Miller's book, "Hero on a Mission," and realized I don't want to give up on a vocation with deep meaning. I've spent most of my adult life helping nonprofits and churches being the best at what they do. One of my all-time favorites was planting a brand new church in downtown Greenville S.C. for Generation X. It was grunge, and it we played our music on volume 11. I took a bite out of the marketing apple in that start up and never forgot the taste. Everywhere I've called home, from Thailand to Texas, I've flavored our nonprofits with incredible messaging and media. Of course I know most of the ROI language and how data drives our decisions, but I've learned a new acronym which really has me thinking — ROE. Yeah, who knew? Let’s stop sweeping Return On Effort under the carpet. Those efforts make creative marketing and sales funnels work. I love getting ROE data too. It's easy. Just listen to your team. They are your most valuable asset. They know what's working.I've become a Hubspot junkie through developing my own team and strategies over the last 8 years to recruit prospective students through some excellent marking and sales funnels. I'm scared to live without Hubspot and wonder if there's a CRM rehab vacancy for me. Hubspot, we can still be friends … just socially. Those who know me, realize a conversation with me about their business or nonprofit, especially if there's an Italian mocha steaming on the table, will give them an ROE they won't forget. Their effort to reach out to me for a conversation turns into better ROI's down the road. I don't consult on everything for everyone, but I love helping small businesses and nonprofits get a handle on their story and start getting clear about their vision, goals, and strategies for success.
