A pioneer in the renewable energy industry, i draw on knowledge and skills from over 25 years’ experience to help clients design, test, install and monitor/evaluate renewable energy systems and projects. Specializing in Solar Photovoltaics (SPV), biogas, improved/ clean cooking technologies and alternative fuels, i serve a diverse range of clients including government departments, NGOs, donor agencies, private companies, institutions, and individuals. My journey in the renewables industry begun at one of the few companies that in the late 1980s introduced SPV technology into the east African region. This was mainly for lighting applications in rural off grid homes and schools, solar water pumping and refrigeration systems for remote communities and hospitals. I was involved in system design, installation, maintenance and providing after installation technical support. At that time SPV was extremely expensive but over a 4-year period we conducted a major promotional and marketing campaign that created widespread awareness, resulting in the installation over 1,000 off grid solar lighting systems, water pumps, and refrigerators in rural homes, schools and hospitals. Between 1991 and 1995, i was involved in designing, testing, promoting and disseminating fuel-saving biomass institutional stoves at Bellerive Foundation. These stoves became so popular that they are now standard equipment in institutional kitchens across the east African region. Thereafter, working at different organizations I continued to promote the use and adoption of SPV, improved cook stove technologies, biogas, as well as alternative fuels. As Production Manager (Chardust 2002-2004) i helped to implement a pilot project at Chemilil Sugar that established a factory for fabricating fuel briquettes from bagasse. This was a ground breaking project that kick-started the development of the briquette industry in Kenya.With this diverse and practical experience, transitioning into my current role as a renewable energy consultant was seamless. The knowledge acquired over the years enables me to effectively serve clients who are looking to acquire and use RE technologies or set up/ monitor/ evaluate renewable energy projects and programs. I have worked on projects in Kenya, Tanzania, South Sudan and Uganda.

This effort was aimed at reducing firewood consumption in schools, colleges and other institutions, as well as in the commercial catering sector.I was part of the team that designed the brick-lined institutional stove and the ground-breaking factory fabricated all metal SMP stove; the BETA stove as well as the Mama (metal two-pot domestic stove), and the Hoteli stove for small catering establishments. Performed water boiling and controlled cooking tests on all stove prototypes to determine their fuel efficiency; conducted field trials and testing-marketing before launching these products in the market.
