Developed a passport reader, a camera-based Optical Character Recognition Reader, hand-held reader, Windows software for linear barcode reading, 2-D matrix recognition, and Optical Character Recognition. Skills included electronic hardware design, PC board layout, optics lens design, microcomputer firmware, windows user interface program, multi-tasking driver, Optical Character Recognition, PDF417 barcode decoder.

Produced passport, check and airline ticket reading Optical Character Recognition software for several clients. Worked with Windows CE and Windows MFC environments. Implemented a keyboard passport reader, dollar bill reader serial number reader, and handheld passport reader.

Managed 15 software developers organized in three groups: measurement, software services, and embedded software. Moved into release a Linux based product. Reorganized the department. Started a worldwide measurement team.

Managed an engineering group, which produced Optical Character Reading hardware and software. Drove into production a product that had been stalled for 3 years. One product was awarded the best of show at the industry show, ScanTech. Remotely managed a software project in Budapest Hungary. Advanced the technology in the areas of Windows software and neural networks. A competitor who closed down the division and eliminated conflicting or non- strategic projects purchased Caere.

Managed an engineering group of 15 people. Produced bar code scanners, Radio Frequency Identification tags, controllers, and software for the industrial automation and retail Point Of Sale Markets. Built up engineering after the previous management and engineering staff left for a startup. Hired and trained engineers, formed hardware and software departments and merged the engineering from three companies into one department. Reduced design cycle time by 50% by changing to automated PCB layout and standardizing on one electrical, software, and mechanical platform for embedded controllers. Directed Datalogic into new technology areas in operating systems, windows, and embedded architecture. Designed a small Internet appliance. Developed a Windows Visual Basic bar-code printing program. Wrote C code for various embedded systems using 8 bit and 386ex processors.

Directed development of a microwave scalar network analyzer for which the manufacturing right was successfully sold to one French and one US company. Co-invented an innovative bar code scanner, which was 1/4 of the size of the nearest competitor by the innovative use of a single Digital Signal Processor for decoding bar codes and interfacing. By building interfaces for several dozen cash registers into a single bar-code scanner distributors needed to stock only one product. Micro Video was sold to Datalogic in 1991.

Supervised the applications and marketing communications staff of this cassette tape drive company. Had responsibility for all marketing data sheets, demonstration designs and customer technical contacts

Wrote the four-year business plans, specified new products, surveyed customer requirements, directed the new product planning process. Acted as liaison between Motorola and Signetics on the 6800 microprocessor second source agreement.

Responsible for two engineering design sections a model shop (20 people). Products included a line of OEM computer boards and a successful multi-user Unix minicomputer

Responsible for five design engineers and two programmers on a CRT terminal design project. Design section was multi-disciplinary comprising programming, microcomputer system design, logic design, analog design, and data communication. Duties included employee evaluations, capital budgeting, schedules, supervision, interviewing, recruiting, system definition and microcomputer system design. Achieved four times the normal sales dollar to engineering dollar ratio, selling about $20 million the first year
