Mgr. Madders has held various roles within the Church and continues to serve the Catholic community today as a priest of the Diocese of Arundel & BrightonBorn on 12 August 1949, Monsignor Brian Richard Madders recognised his vocation in his early 20s. He has worked in a number of parishes throughout the years. He was educated by the Xavarian Brothers at Mayfield College in Sussex, and later went on to study at St Joseph’s College, Mark Cross until 1968. Mgr. Madders’ departure from Mark Cross signified a new chapter. In the following years, he held various jobs whilst residing in South Clapham including one at National Bank in London. He also briefly sold encyclopedias. His studies for the priesthood began in 1971 at Campion House, Osterley. In 1972 he moved to St John’s Seminary in Wonersh. In 1978, he was ordained as a priest with the Diocese of Arundel and Brighton in the church of St Thomas of Canterbury, St Leonards on sea, Sussex. In September of the same year, he became Assistant Priest to St Ann’s in Banstead, serving also as chaplain to Leatherhead’s St Andrew’s School. Following an appointment to a Brighton parish (St John the Baptist) he took time out to undertake further studies at the University of London’s Heythrop College. He later served as Assistant Priest at St Mary of the Angels parish, Worthing. From 1985 to 2007 he served as a Catholic Naval Chaplain. And is now parish priest of the Camberley & Bagshot Catholic parish in Surrey.Mgr. Madders hobbies, include a love of motorcycling. While serving as a chaplain in the Royal Navy, Mgr. Madders became a member of its Motorcycle Club during 1989, which he served as Chairman until 1992. He went on to become the club’s president until 2003. With its Club House located at HMS Sultan Gosport in Surrey, the club’s activities included participating in an annual Children in Need sponsored ride, supporting children’s homes and promoting motorcycle safety. Today, he still remains an honorary member.
