I formed a knowledge base at chip, schematic, system, & lab level. Support and onsite troubleshooting resulted in designing boards and firmware to recreate, test, & correct customer issues. System interactions during brownout, power ramps rate are not simple to reconstuct but also essential to provide useable data back to engineering, sales, marketing, quality departments, and customers. Salesforce.com CRM technical support brought web based operational transparency for all customer contact, field calls, and hands-on design reviews, etc. As go-to guy for marketing and sales with 10 city Asia & US seminar tours, sales training, articles, design-in guidelines, errata, application notes, website support, creative content creation, web presentations, this drove design wins. Worked systematically with customer, engineering and QA to root cause and correction. Added new archetecture for 0.13um development adding an MPU and a doubling of voltage on the capacitor that powers the STORE cycle. I designed (in verilog) an MPU archetecture for the 0.13um products providing cost estimates/chip area (0.38mm2). An MPU reducing TTM was critical. nvCell shrink suggested a search for a new programing sequence as huge test times are required to qualify retention/endurance. With a large sample parallel search was possible. Iterative approach could have killed the product. Worked on new product launch, datasheets, design conversions, & built custom HW/SW for RTC products Notable accomplishments: Saved Dell $10 Mil in two hours of product troubleshooting, fixed issue in F-16 fighter in 2 days, a $50 million dollar potential impact. Marketing articles and colaterial estimated by director to be worth over $80K in 2007-08 in "free advertising" and untold number of design wins created. (See below for links.) Show less

In early days, SW bugs required extensive programming skill to parse and correct CAD databases and write custom tools to compensate. Only then, was first pass success made possible. Our niche was in our layout ability as experienced hardware design engineers driven to 100% mechanical and electrical integrity & connectivity with desins having high-speed signal integrity, FCC cerifications, ESD protection, mechanical drawing (full service), and low level analog performance. Many customers only knew our layouts worked, and never understood, nor cared, what went on behind the scene. Yet, we competed with the same delivery times as lower priced technicians. We also did fast turn small military prototype work from schematic, BOM, Layout, procurement, layout, fab, test, and assemblly in <3days with round-the-clock service. Full concept to production of turnkey new product developments, and emergency consulting for at-risk (or failing) development projects, provided more challenges. One Key accomplishment was Forte Neworks first product development whereby PCBsolutions provided design services from prototype to initial production of their groundbreaking network tester product. The startup, Forte Neworks Inc, in less than 2 years, was later sold to Fluke and created 6 very happy and hardworking multi-millionaires in the process. Show less

I did everything with the help of a few contractors, SW dev., test, manual, articles, marketing, sales, support, etc. I underestimated the TAM and many of the SMARTWORK sites were not active as PCB CAD was in an infant stage. The intel emulator took 90 minutes to load a program and taught me the importance of interation turn time. Bad tools can toruture you. This was my passion and got more than min. wage out of it. Diplomacy was key as the "design engineer" (math degree) had no training in digital logic and state machines. After that, I coded in fortran flight simulations for wargames. Show less
