Over the years, I’ve developed a talent for understanding users and uncovering problems, which is why I love being a product manager. This talent is evident as I spend time with the users of my products, ideate, review designs, and conduct various forms of research. To provide one example, in a recent e-mail conversation, a director of one of our public facilities asked if a bug reporting solution would become their single point of contact for support. Instead of simply answering the question, I recognized a potential problem and asked about their various support channels. This eventually led to a meeting with a wide range of individuals where we dug more deeply into the situation and discussed solutions. Discovering and solving the root of a problem is exciting for me. I have a history of delivering innovative and effective products. At the end of 2017, I was the product manager for Compare a Face, an experience that uses your selfie, ancestral portraits, and facial recognition to tell you which ancestors you look most like. This was an entirely new concept, built in stacks and on platforms that were new for our engineers, and using a new third-party cloud service. With all of this, we also met high-quality standards. and managed to deliver before the deadline. My coworkers frequently comment on my love of data. I’ll admit that few tasks bring me greater joy than reviewing analytics, trying to understand what can be learned, and crafting a narrative around the data. Over the years, this passion has provided a deeper understanding of our users' experience with our software and influenced multiple business decisions.
