What does ‘The Good Life’ (ie, a wise life) mean to you?In addition to healthy relations with friends, family, and community, to me it means:~ MEANINGFUL WORK~ FINANCIAL SECURITY~ LIFELONG LEARNINGI've enjoyed all three my entire adult life by always living well below my financial means, pursuing work/projects of genuine interest, volunteering in community projects, donating to environmental orgs, investing in ethical companies, and rejecting mainstream expectations (childish conspicuous displays) of ‘success’.And those conscious choices (based on personal PRIORITIES, outcome PROBABILITIES, and work-play BALANCE) have allowed me to do MANY interesting things...After earning degrees in Engineering Science (Georgia Tech) and in Sociology (UF), I enjoyed two career treks in power systems (FP&L, GE Power Systems) and Internet software.I also pursued many side gigs/hobbies: technical writer, private pilot, marine electrician, scuba diver, beach catamaran racer, ocean sailor, math/chem/physics tutor, jazz guitarist, performing musician, e-bike builder, and hybrid wooden boat designer/builder.Through those and other experiences, I've learned a lot about how we are rapidly destroying the nonhuman natural world (the foundational PRIMARY economy) as a result of the massive environmental impact from our collective human/machine activities (the dependent SECONDARY economy) in pursuit of "financial wealth" (the abstract/virtual/dependent TERTIARY economy).I've also become aware of an emerging worldwide response from individuals/organizations who understand that SECONDARY/TERTIARY (human) economies are ultimately doomed without a healthy PRIMARY (nature) economy. (No eco, no ego.)And with the steady DECLINE in the cheap availability of polluting fossil-carbon energy ~ enabling excessive consumption ~ there appears to be a steady INCLINE in the non-materialistic aspirations of younger generations seeking more meaningful lives/livelihoods while enjoying tech-enabled LIFESTYLES of SUFFICIENCY.Indeed, we appear to be in the early stages of a GREAT TRANSITION (what I call an ‘EcoShift’) to a more graceful and ecologically reverential, networked, localized, and decarbonized EQUILIBRIUM ECONOMY.What a blessing (curse?) to be alive during such 'interesting' times!WHY I INVEST IN SOLAR ENERGY~ ENERGY is THE master resource~ ‘EcoShift’ to clean energy is urgent and happening~ Solar energy can now be economically produced/stored/consumed locally~ So expect exponential growth in cleaner/leaner/smarter solar+battery Distributed Energy Systems (DERs)
